The PLANKTON MANIFESTO team is diving into the production of new video-sculptures, which are conceptually and physically inspired by plankton. This new series of vide-video-sculptures shall raise awareness of the importance of plankton in the context of climate change and ocean preservation.

Plankton sustains the ocean eco-systems, serving as the basis of the marine food chain and produce a similar amount of oxygen as all of the world’s forests combined. Also, they influence carbon export to deeper ocean waters through manyfold ecological and physical processes.

The crucial role of phytoplankton as the gatekeepers of energy provision to all life in the oceans, may likely be altered by climate change. How climate change reorganizes plankton distribution in the ocean will have far-reaching consequences for marine life. Large quantities of plastic continuously end up in our oceans. Microplastics are being consumed by zooplankton and is carried through the food chain, end up fish, shellfish, and birds, as well as our own food.
