SEEDS OF LIFE #3, THE MIDDLE HOUSE, SHANGHAI

September 5 - October 5, 2019

At the main entrance of the Middle House the visitors are welcomed by a three-channel window projection. Inspired by the surrounding bamboo, and realized with a special paint that turns into a projection film, this site-specific installation represents Element Wood.

The path continues through the lobby, where a majestic chandelier proudly welcomes the viewer. In this section the passenger can experience three of Loher’s smaller, self-contained Video-sculptures on the large table that relate to the Element Earth.

The Spa inspired the artist to create her first video installation in a Pool. Katja Loher’s video compositions related to the Element Water can be experiences in multiple dimensions inside the water and reflected onto the ceiling. The visiors are invited to dive into the colorful videos to observe the fishes and corals that were filmed in an underwater production in the seven-shaded sea at the beautiful and protected Island, Providencia in Colombia. Here the aquatic ecosystem is is still in balance and the colors of the corals are still vibrant.

The journey through the elements ends at the staircase by Piero Lissoni, an Italian Architect known for his use of sleek, bold lines and clean silhouettes to redefine modern spaces. The three Videoplanets that are installed underneath the staircase are hosting a three-channel video composition of the Element Metal. Spiraling up the staircase the visiter gets pulled up by the power planet that represent Element Fire, which leads us to the space where the Opening Reception will be hold.
